At some stage in his journey-quest the initiate experiences the true mystery of Kristos, the Ur-krist. This image portrays a synthesis or more accurately, an untangling of the ancient mythos and the later plagiarism known today as the Christian church. It is the moment of total and utter darkest night which heralds the dawn, this is expressed by the huge, looming face of a grinning devil that gloats upon the crucified god.
